About

What a Palaver has been set up to bring together a lot of my disparate writings which have found themselves dotted around various other blogs and those mutterings that have not yet found themselves a home.

For now I will leave the main other sites, warriorwoman and earthwoman to run as before and simply copy the entries into whatapalaver. Whatapalaver will be the only source for my discussion of a more geeky nature, such as gadgets, iphone applications and excel spreadsheets, a dedicated blog might just be too much without the dilution from ew and ww.

I’m in the early stages of a new obsession with motorbikes and my early love affair will be chronicled here on whatapalaver as well. I’ve set up a series of category specific rss feeds for those who don’t want to hop from spinach to excel to swimming before settling on a review of the Triumph Bonneville.

Introduction to earthwoman

Exactly 1 week before the autumnal equinox in the year 2007, I acquired myself a smallish but hideously overgrown allotment plot in West London – Manor Road Allotments in Richmond, to be precise. This blog will describe the highs and lows as I, earthwoman, a youngish, single-handed woman whips it into shape and brings home mountains of delicious produce and tries to store it in the ice cube sized freezer compartment of her pokey fridge.

When I say single-handed I am of course hoping that my parents, who live a mere 5 hrs away, will make frequent visits to help assert human authority over the wannabe wilderness region.

Almost two years later to the day (1st October 2009), life has changed considerably and I can report that Lynn and I have taken on another plot, deep in the middle of the London clay zone, otherwise known as Norbury Park allotments. So together we now have a South West London plot to tame.

Introduction to warriorwoman

Earthwoman is also occasionally referred to as warriorwoman, a rather grandiose misnomer. Under this pseudonym she completes outlandish running feats and generally gets hot, knackered and sweaty – not for the fainthearted.

Introduction to Big Betty

Big Betty is new so I don’t know much about her yet.

She passed her direct access course about 12 years ago riding on a lowered BMW F650 Strada, she then moved to the Virago 535 and quickly fell out of love with biking. A lull of 11 years followed before a new job, a pay rise and another grotty commute persuaded her it was time to get back in the saddle.

The BMW F650 doesn’t seem to fit anymore so she’s currently trying to track down the perfect short girls bike and hopefully it won’t always be the Brompton.
